AHL team assigns youngster to Gators; Gators lose another

The Sound Tigers of the AHL have assigned forward Mike Sellitto, a 2010 graduate, to the IceGators. The story of this youngster is a great one. Most professional hockey players come from big schools known for solid hockey programs. However, Sellitto has made his way to the professional ranks by playing club hockey and playing for the small Florida Gulf Coast University. He took it upon himself to send out videos to get his name out since few scouts cover his schools games, and has become the first player in his school's history to make a professional roster.

The Gators have also reportedly lost Travis Martell, who was recently traded for Martin Kubaliak. As it turns out, the Gators previously signed Kubaliak without realizing he had reached veteran status. Kubaliak played in a league overseas that the IceGators did not add to his career games. Since the Gators already had 3 veterans they were forced to trade him away. However, Martell has reportedly chosen to play in Europe this season. The Gators now need a few solid defensemen to mature quickly at training camp.
