IceGators can't defend early 3-0 lead; lose 4-3 in OT

The IceGators took the ice inside of "The Hanger" in Pensacola looking like a completely different team in the second game of the season. Early in the first period Beau McLaughlin took a hard wrist shot on the left side of the net that clanked off the post then hit the back of Ice Flyer goalie Ryan Scott then slid into the goal. A few minutes later McLaughlin received a pass from Mike Silletto on the right side of the net and beat Scott again for his second goal of the night. Later in the first period CJ Tozzo showed off great moves around the defender and crossed a pass to DJ Fimiani, who easily tapped the puck into open net. Just 11 minutes into the game the Gators were up 3-0, but that's the last time they would find the back of the net.

The first period ended 3-2 with the Gators controlling the game, largely inpart to 0 penalties. However, for the rest of the game, the IceGators became acquainted too many times with the penalty box.

Even though the Gators did not add to the scoreboard again there were a few close calls. Karasiewicz hit the post for the second straight night. There was a beautiful 2 on 1 with Kraz and Sicard (identical to last night's goal) almost found its way into the goal. Melynk was taken down on a breakaway and received a penalty shot but tripped on the penalty shot. Silletto missed two great chances late when the game was tied at 3. McNeil missed a great chance in overtime.

Give credit to Pensacola for fighting back into the game but the IceGators must learn to keep a lead and most importantly- Stay out of penalty box! The Gators drop to 0-2 (no point for overtime loss this season) and will have a long week of practice before next Friday's game at Mississippi.
