IceGators get outshot and out-disciplined in opener; Fall 3-2

IceGators got outshot tremendously by the Surge in the opener in Biloxi mostly due to a staggering 9 penalty kills resulting in a fall of 3-2. The game opened up with an early penalty by Mississippi but the IceGators couldn't convert. From there, the IceGators failed to lead in the shot department, eventually ending the game outshot 46-27. On the positive side, Dennis Sicard chose opening night to have his coming out party in an IceGators jersey. He had the only two Gator goals on the night, both of which were beautifully assisted. For the first goal, McLaughlin found Dean Moore at the point that threw it to the crease where Sicard was waiting with the deflection. The second goal was a beautifully executed 2-on-1 break with Trevor Karasiewicz crossing the puck to a sliding Sicard that put it past goalie Mike Brown. The Gators did manage to make the end of the game interesting, hitting the post twice in the last few minutes, one on a laser shot by Karasiewicz with a few minutes left. The other by Moore with under a minute left in the game, on the penalty kill with Gator goalie, Darling, skating to the bench for an extra attacker. The IceGators make a 2 hour trip to Pensacola to face the Ice Flyers tommorow night where they look to get their first win of the new season. The season is young-much more hockey to be played.
